Havening Techniques®
"When the past is always present ..."
Havening Techniques® is an innovative psychosensory therapy based in neuroscience, designed to help you overcome trauma and stress-related problems and release the associated negative emotions. This neurobiological science-based technique ensures that these negative emotions are not just softened or blurred, but actually disconnected from the trauma and transformed to neutral.
With this method, you can reduce stress and anxiety symptoms in a quick, effective and simple way. In addition, it helps Havening with personal growth and strengthening your resilience.
The technique restores the self-healing capacity of the brain through a combination of gentle touching of the face, palms and arms, along with psychological distraction. This creates a sense of safety and relaxation, allowing traumatic memories to transform.
These touches, which you do yourself under guidance when it is an online session, ensure that:
- your brain releases painful memories or fears
- That you feel calmer, lighter and safer
- That delta waves are activated in the brain
And ... delta waves have the positive side effect of increasing happiness hormones in the brain, such as:
- serotonin (provides calmness, inner peace and a sense of accomplishment)
- gaba (is both relaxing but also inhibits external stimuli)
- oxytocin (cuddle hormone)
- dopamine (happiness hormone)
A session is calming and gives immediate positive, healing results, without having to tell your story over and over again or relive unpleasant feelings.
Everything you need to feel relaxed and safe is already within you.
Together we discover what is still holding you back and build a safe place within yourself where recovery can begin.
Encoding trauma
The onset of trauma is influenced by four main factors:
- The event
This can be something you experienced yourself or something you experienced indirectly, such as seeing it happen to someone else, or hearing or reading about a violent event. - The meaning and emotion
The event must have personal meaning and evoke a strong emotional response. - The sensitivity of the brain
The brain is more vulnerable in certain circumstances, such as during stressful periods, grief, or hormonal fluctuations, for example, during puberty or menopause. - The feeling of inevitability
A traumatic experience is often accompanied by a sense of helplessness or the idea that escape is impossible.
These factors together determine whether an experience is stored as a trauma and how deep its impact is.
The treatments
Facilitated Havening (face to face).
An important step in the process of decoding of a trauma is to activate the amygdala, the part in your brain where the trauma is stored. We do this by thinking very briefly about the traumatic event or emotional memory, which activates the nerve cells encoded with the trauma. Then the Havening touch is applied. These are touches on upper arms, hands and face - this can be applied by yourself or by me - these touches cause delta waves to be generated in the brain.
At the same time, we work with pleasant psychological distractions so that the unpleasant memory disappears from working memory. The emotion will be disconnected from the traumatic experience or stressful memory after a session, it feels neutral. Peace returns, physical symptoms that have developed over time may disappear. Fears, tensions, phobias, and traumas that have been present for years can thus disappear in a relatively short time.
A Havening session always ends up relaxing and calming and can provide immediate positive healing results. We empower the nerve cells in your brain to make new, positive connections, making you more resilient. The beauty of this technique is that you can also apply it yourself in a variety of situations.
Facilitated Self Havening (online).
During a facilitated Self Havening session, I guide you through the facilitated Havening session online, but you perform the movements yourself. Therefore, this makes Havening particularly suitable for online sessions.
The Result
People who are constantly triggered by traumatic experiences or stressful events notice after a Havening treatment that the emotion is released from the memory. Peace comes, and physical symptoms that have developed over time from constant stress begin to diminish or even disappear immediately.
Sometimes it is not clear where exactly the problem or complaint is coming from. In that case, we work with the symptoms or complaints you are experiencing. During the treatment it often emerges where the complaint has its origin.
Havening produces particularly good results for PTSD, phobias, trauma, panic attacks, stress-related complaints, burnout, depression, anxiety, addictions and chronic pain, among others.
What can I do for you?
My training and certification include Havening Techniques®, Reconnective Healing and The Reconnection® and Level 2 Breathworker. I use all of these techniques as tools to help you achieve your goals as quickly as possible.
In addition, during the first session I will teach you a powerful self-Havening technique that you can apply to yourself. You can use this technique in tense or stress-related situations to relax yourself. But also to deal with certain feelings in a more relaxed way and to build resilience.
Generally, depending on your specific goal, 1 to 5 sessions are needed to solve a problem/trauma or to greatly reduce symptoms.
Research Publications on Havening
Havening Techniques is a relatively new psychosensory method used to treat trauma, anxiety and other stress-related problems. Research supporting the effectiveness of Havening is emerging and is generating increasing interest among academic researchers. Several studies show the potential of Havening as an effective therapeutic method.
In the link below, you will read some of the cited studies that focus on various applications of Havening, such as its impact on emotional regulation, trauma processing and physical stress responses. They include references and links to publications that explore the mechanisms of action, results and clinical implications of Havening, and highlight the effectiveness and possibilities of applying Havening in practice.

1-on-1 coaching and therapy sessions
1-on-1 coaching and therapy sessions, based on Havening Technique®, breathwork and energy work of 1.5 – 2 hours. Follow-up sessions last on average 1.5 hours.
These are individual therapy sessions, aimed at helping you process traumas and stress-related issues and to release the associated negative emotions. Together we discuss the duration of this trajectory and we see each other every other week, depending on your needs.
In addition, during the first session I will teach you a powerful self-Havening technique that you can apply to yourself. You can use this technique in tense or stress-related situations to relax yourself. But also to deal with certain feelings in a more relaxed way and to build resilience.
